Arizona Overnight Trips from the East Valley
Picking just a few Arizona overnight trips from the east valley is challenging because there is so much to experience! From natural beauties like the Grand Canyon and El Morro National Monument to hiking, resorts, and desert jeep tours, the southwest has something for everyone.
Arizona day trips from Gilbert include Prescott, Jerome, and Sedona which can also be a weekend (or longer) getaway. Pink Jeep Tours in Jerome is a great way to see the desert flora and fauna in ways you couldn’t if you were hiking. Choose from Touch-the-Earth Sedona Vortex Tour, the Scenic Rim Tour, Coyote Canyons Tour, and more. Prescott, Jerome, and Sedona offer a variety of hotels, motels, cabins, and lodges including historic and haunted venues.
Wickenburg is located about an hour and a half from Gilbert northwest of Phoenix. Many of us have just driven through on our way north but it’s worth a stop or an overnight trip as the town has a little something for everyone from live theatre to hiking to Vulture Mine and horseback riding adventures.
Cowboy Way Adventures offers horseback riding trips from Wickenburg, Sedona, and Prescott where you can see beautiful, remote areas of the Sonoran desert and rest by the campfire at night.
If you haven’t seen the Grand Canyon, I am wondering why you’re waiting! Located about four hours north of Gilbert, this is a must-see sight whether you’re making it a (long) daytrip or an overnight adventure. Stop in Williams, AZ and take the Grand Canyon Railway to the South Rim or make the drive yourself. It’s a popular spot for Arizonans and tourists alike and hotels are limited so I recommend making a reservation.
El Morro National Monument, NM is a national park open year round. Once the main east-west trail, this great sandstone monument was a stopover for travelers who enjoyed the shade and rest and left their mark in symbols, names, dates, and stories for us to learn from and enjoy. It is recommended that you plan ahead and make a reservation.
I hope you’re enjoying the summer and look forward to hearing where you travelled!
